“You keep staring,” my dad stated while I was staring at the painting in front of me. He stood next to me and continued on, “…you’ll take a picture. Shall you take a picture of every single painting?”

“Not every single painting. Why don’t you enjoy our time and take a look at those paintings?” I mumbled.

“Oh, I am enjoying this. When will we finish?”

Hahaha… my dad is not the type of people who visits galleries. It’s not his things. However, glad he joined me.

I went to Bentara Budaya to see a solo exhibition entitled “Melintasi Jaman” by Soetopo. The exhibition was from 15 April until 19 April 2015. Soetopo was born in 1931. He used to study at ASRI Yogyakarta—school of art. His works of art are realistic and he depicts social life of Javanese society.

The above painting is "Bakul Sayur" (2015). Bakul is a Javanese word for "seller" and sayur means "vegetables". Bakul sayur is those who sell vegetables. You can find bakul sayur in traditional markets here, in Jogja. Some of them even still wear kebaya, as seen in "Bakul Sayur".

With the sun above my head and dusty streets to go through, I went to Bentara Budaya. It took about 23 minutes for me to this place from Malioboro. Bentara Budaya was not far but the traffic was successfully gave headache. Horrraayyyy!!! (this meant to be sarcasm, btw).

“Baris Kedua” was the name of the exhibition. You could visit Bentara Budaya to see this since the works of art would be there until February 11, 2015. This art exhibition represented the works of 13 artists. These artists were alumnus of ISI (Indonesian Art Institute) and this exhibition was the continuation of an art exhibition held last year entitled “Story Telling”.

“Baris Kedua” was a critique addressed to pop culture. As a part of pop culture, the artists portrayed consumerism, body exploration, false perception of superhero and artificiality of mass media. Check this "Cactus Session" by Dedi Irawan:

What do you think of the exhibition? If you’d like to go to Bentara Budaya, just go to Jl. (read: jalan) Suroto No. 2. Apart from art exhibition, this place also has live jazz performance every Monday which called “Jazz Mben Senen”.

Okay readers, this is the end of this post. Thank you for spending time with me for a while. I hope you have a nice day and feel free to visit my blog every now and then! Hehehe…See ya next time, readers!

Aha, there you are! I have a question for you! What is it that crosses your mind at first when I mention the word “orangutan”? Is it banana? Is it your mind shouts, “My ancestor!”? Or you have no idea what orangutan really is? Oh well, I visited an art exhibition—Life of Umbrella Species—at Jogja National Museum on Tuesday. This exhibition was held on 31 January to 3 February 2015. Before going further, in case you still wonder what orangutan is, you can check it here.

So, once I left my office, I went right away to Jogja National Museum to see how people would interpret orangutans.  It took only about 20 minutes to this museum from Malioboro but I had longer time since I had no idea where the museum was. Pffff…

Life of Umbrella Species is a part of Art for Orangutan which was a campaign to save orangutans. I read online articles about this campaign and found a sad news. One baby of orangutan that could be saved represented 2 to 10 orangutans which got killed. They couldn't live peacefully in the forest due to logging.  Therefore, the exhibition was done to expose this issue. There were 100 artsy stuffs from 92 artists. Yes, most works of art were framing orangutan.  I took some photos so that you could have a peek what I saw in the museum:

If you were in Jogja I wouldn’t hesitate to invite you to come. We got some performers and mostly were children. Geez, they were so cute! I picked one of the photos here. These kids were from TK BOPKRI Gondolayu.

I got to know those people who ran Lasy Competition. They made a competition for playground and kindergarten students and it ran so well. Thanks for the crews of Champion Organizer who made it happen. Oh, they asked me to take few photos together. Hehehe…  I wore my new mustard yellow blazer (or cardigan? Not sure what to call it). Yellow among reds!

I would like to say, "Well done!" to our visual team. Look at the house of the Farmer in our stage! Don't you think it's nice? They worked hard for this!

If you look at the above picture, we got also DJ Nio from Fade Out Management. If you would like to know more about Fade Out Management, its DJs and DJ course, you can ask further more to DJ Kateratchy. Visit his blog here

Character event won’t be complete without the character itself. That’s why we had meet and greet with Shaun the sheep on the first weekend when the event was running. Of course we took time to get a shoot with Shaun. Below here you can see my colleagues. Each of us wore white t-shirt with the famous emoticon. Which emoticon is your favorite?
